The Folle Journée Festival celebrates its 30th edition
What is La Folle Journée?
Created in 1995 by René Martin, who is the artistic director, La Folle Journée de Nantes is a musical event dedicated to classical music, which shatters the codes.
This unique cultural event aims to desacralize classical music, while maintaining a certain level of excellence. It allows a wider audience to discover and appreciate this musical style.
Live a total and immersive experience at the heart of music
The event is a unique gathering place, which brings together the public, artists and other actors of the music scene for 5 days.
Meet great artists from all over the world. Each year, the event federates the public around a major trend in history, a composer or a theme.
The theme for 2024
This year, three themes will be explored around a single theme: "Origins".
This theme highlights the musical traditions that have inspired composers over the centuries.
National schools: These emerged from the 19th century onwards and celebrated the popular traditions of various countries.
The evolution of musical forms: How did the musical forms that gave rise to masterpieces come into being? The Sonata, the Quartet or the Concerto... These will be illustrated in programmes specially designed for the occasion. The origins of the world's oldest instruments, such as the flute, the oud and the duduk, will also be explored.
The founding works: Presentation of the major works that have left their mark on history: Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring, Bernstein's West Side Story...
